Prayer To Adeke

‘Adeke’ is an Ateso Goddess. The word itself means ‘ruler’, ‘overseer’, ‘lord and creator’. In this work Adeke is co-opted to give face to our own inner goddess who, in the artist’s case, she believes manifests through her keloid scars. Keloids happen when skin takes a long time to forget trauma and keeps healing creating hypertrophic scars that rise above the skin. Each keloid is different from the other with a unique texture almost as if marking how unique and different each experience is: a living vessel of memory.
